Biography
Annenberg was politicized at a young age by the events of the Cold War. She studied with Isaac Soyer and Robert Beverly Hale at the Art Students League and later received an MA in Studio Art from New York University.
Annenberg is a painter of political subjects. Her newest body of work comments on mass media and the post-9/11 world. The paintings are Conceptual and do not depict actual events. The language of the paintings is Postmodern since they employ appropriation.
Annenberg numbers among her artists influences the work of Ben Shahn, James Rosenquist, Leon Golub, and Mark Tansey. The language of her paintings is postmodern in their use of appropriation. Like Tansey's work, Annenberg's is conceptual.
Marcia Annenberg's paintings have been exhibited nationally at the Butler Museum of American Art, Columbus, OH; the Red Chair Gallery, Kansas City, MO; The Holocaust Memorial Resource and Educational Center of Central Florida, Maitland; the Pierro Gallery, South Orange, NJ; and New Century Artists Gallery and the Puffin Room Gallery, both in NYC.
Recently, her work was featured in the third episode of a BBC documentary "The Private Life of a Masterpiece III: The Third of May," chronicling the life and influence of Francisco Goya.
